The UK has been the most popular destination for Bangladeshi students who dream for a better future by receiving world-class education from top universities. Known for its education quality and post graduation work option, many choose to apply to universities in the UK. However, a lot of policy changes have been made which will be implemented from 2026 by the UK government. With complete guidance you can still ace your study in the UK journey smoothly. Here is all you need to know:
What has changed?
Graduate Route (Post‑Study Work) duration: Reduced from 2 years → 18 months for students on standard bachelor’s and taught master’s courses
Bringing dependents: Only postgraduate research (PhD and similar) students will generally be eligible to bring dependents. Taught masters and undergraduate students will likely not be able to bring family members as dependents.
Stricter sponsor / university compliance: The UK government is increasing oversight of licensed sponsors. Universities with weak compliance may face limits so choose institutions with a solid international-student compliance track record.
Higher English language thresholds: Expect higher score requirements in IELTS or equivalent for some visa categories and admissions.
Digital visa transition: The UK is moving further toward electronic visa records (eVisas), making the process more digital.
Things to do early for 2026 intake
- You need to confirm your course start date (September or January) and check whether the new rules apply or not.
- Choose universities known for sponsor compliance (look for strong international offices and clear published guidance for international students).
- Aim for higher English scores now (e.g., a higher IELTS band or equivalent), and assemble extra evidence of English proficiency (reports, prior English-medium education) that will help you a long way.
- Prepare finance proof and plan your budget (living + tuition)
Checklist: Documents to prepare
- Passport
- Academic transcripts (SSC, HSC, Bachelor where applicable)
- English test result
- Statement of Purpose (SOP)

- Living costs: Plan £9,000 – £14,000/year depending on the city.
- Check scholarships early like university scholarships, Commonwealth, Chevening eligibility, country‑specific awards. Apply for scholarships with early deadlines.
Receiving CAS & Visa application

- Prepare proof of funds: banks, sponsor letters to make sure all the documents match the Home Office format and amounts.
- TB test.
- Apply online for the Student Visa.

Working while studying
- You can work up to 20 hours/week during term-time and full-time during vacations
